When decorating with a rustic theme, you want to go with earthy colors. Browns, golds, reds and greens work great. Think of deep woods and autumn leaves and you’ll be able to think up some great colors for your rustic theme. Start by painting your room (or rooms) that you plant to decorate with this theme then buy fabrics and accents that pull in your main paint color and also have some other accent colors for interest.

When you think of rustic decorating, log style furniture comes to mind and you can actually get this style for any room in the house and it’s not that expensive either! However, if you can’t spring for new furniture you can incorporate your old furniture into your decorating theme by using slipcovers in one of your earthy tones.

Lighting is a key element in any room so make sure you have lots of lamps and chandeliers for your rustic d├ęcor. You want to consider lighting made form natural antlers as this will give you a great conversation piece and a wonderful look. Don’t overdue it though – one nice chandelier or accent lamp in this style is great but too many of them will make the room look overdone. Mix in some plain wooden, rustic style lamps for added lighting.
